Taking inspiration from nature, this Pichwai has been painted by celebrated Pichwai artist Sushil Soni and is a beautiful depiction of Kamal Talai, or lotuses in the lake. Using vibrant colours, intricate shading and the little iconic elements that are associated with Lord Krishna, the artist here underlines how Krishna is everywhere in mind and spirit.

Pichwai paintings originated in Nathdwara, Rajasthan almost 5 centuries ago and are traditionally used as the backdrop of the Krishna idol in the sanctum of the Pushtimarg temples. The term Pichwai is derived from the Sanskrit word ‘pich’, which means ‘back’ and ‘wai’, which means ‘hanging’. These devotional, painted wall-hangings depict tales from Krishna’s life.
